Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright

Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright

I have been strongly influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture and apply the design principles he used in developing my own designs.

These principles include:

  • Integrity of design - the integration of all of the elements of a building into one consistent theme
  • Deriving forms from the building's function
  • Integration of a building with its site
  • Response to the climate to maximise comfort with minimum energy use
  • Natural use of materials, each material should be used in accordance with its nature
  • Integration of the design with the method of construction
  • Decorative elements derived from the nature of the materials and construction

This approach to architecture is clearly described in The Fountainhead, a novel by the philosopher and writer Ayn Rand, who has been another major influence on my life.
